Their battle has all the necessary elements of a quality modern beef: passive-aggressive tweets, threats of legal action, and thinly veiled potshots delivered via the press (Tidal is also in the fray, but it’s more like the overeager little brother waiting to get punched in the face). Over the past couple of years, the relationship between Stockholm-based Spotify and Cupertino-based Apple has devolved from “competitive” to “rivalrous” to “full-on beef.” The two companies’ streaming services are now the biggest on-demand subscription music platforms in the world, with 39 million and 15 million paying customers, respectively.
